Throughout the year, CASE hosts a variety of events for Fuqua students as well as the greater Duke community. These events provide a great way for students and the community to learn more about social entrepreneurship and social impact. Some of our regularly scheduled events include:
Day in Durham
Each year as a new class of first year MBA students come to Duke, we want them to learn about the city that they are now calling home, while also beginning to understand how their business skills can be used for social, environmental and economic impact.
Beginning in 2004, CASE and the Fuqua Net Impact Club began hosting Day in Durham – an all-day event in which students hear from an inspiring keynote speaker from the local community and then go in to Durham on a number of treks. On these treks, students visit important community sites and meet with local leaders across a spectrum of disciplines. For example, in 2014 more than 200 students met with 20 local organizations tackling issues related to education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, impact investing, social entrepreneurship, and community revitalization.
Since inception, more than 1,700 Duke MBA students have participated in Day in Durham, learning about their local community and being inspired to get involved in Durham and use their business skills for community impact during their time at Fuqua and beyond. If your organization is interested in supporting Day in Durham, contact us here.
The Duke University Sustainable Business & Social Impact (SBSI) conference is the largest event of its kind in the Southeast and the largest student-led conference at The Fuqua School of Business. The event is aimed at educating students and Triangle-area professionals on rapidly evolving opportunities to bring about positive and sustainable change through business. Each year, the conference brings together hundreds of attendees and speakers from the public, private, and social sectors to discuss innovative business models, partnerships, and ideas that are creating last social impact around the world.
CASE Executive Speaker Series
The CASE Executive Speaker Series features leaders in the field of social impact, highlighting trends in the field and industries, as well as how MBA students and practitioners can use their skills to advance social missions at organizations. Past topics have included the roles of foundations in impact investing, how to effectively message your social venture, and utilizing innovative, grassroots efforts to bring systems-level change.
Duke Symposium on Scaling Innovations in Global Health
As part of the Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator at Duke (SEAD), the Duke Symposium on Scaling Innovations in Global Health is a free symposium open to students and the community to learn about the latest in global health innovations and learn from experts and organizations in the field on successfully scaling innovations. The Symposium also provides the opportunity to students to learn about career opportunities in global health innovation.
CASE Social Entrepreneur Awards
In previous years, CASE awarded the CASE Leadership in Social Entrepreneurship Award and the Enterprising Social Innovation Award, recognizing amazing leaders in social entrepreneurship and innovative social enterprises.
