Elisa Villanueva Beard

Elisa’s passion for educational equity comes from personal experience. Elisa grew up in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas and developed a deep commitment to Teach For America’s mission as a student at DePauw University, where she was one of just a few Mexican American students. Her journey with Teach For America started 18 years ago in Phoenix, as a 1998 corps member. She joined the organization’s staff in 2001 to lead their work in her hometown as executive director of the Rio Grande Valley region. Four years later, she became chief operating officer, leading Teach For America’s field operations. During her eight years in this role, Elisa led Teach For America’s expansion from 22 regions to 48.

In 2013, Elisa was named co-CEO of Teach For America alongside Matthew Kramer. In 2015, Matthew Kramer stepped down, and Elisa became the sole CEO. Under her leadership, Teach For America currently impacts more than 750,000 students in over 2,600 schools.

Lorraine Orr
Chief Operations Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Lorraine Orr serves as Chief Operations Officer. She leads field services and activities across the Boys & Girls Club Movement, with a focus on strengthening the capacity and sustainability of Clubs. She is also responsible for the Movement-wide advancement of youth and Club metrics; programs; and child safety and protection strategies. In addition, she oversees leadership development for Clubs and BGCA national staff.

Lorraine also provides direct support, counsel, information, input and feedback to the National Area Council Committee. She drives significant national partnerships to advance BGCA’s mission, and works closely with other senior leaders to develop and execute key strategies and initiatives that drive organizational objectives.

Lorraine joined BGCA in May 1997. She has held several field service roles, including Regional Vice President for the Southeast Region, and her most recent position of Senior Vice President, Field Operations. Prior to her work with BGCA, Lorraine was the Chief Professional Officer of the local Boys & Girls Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Lorraine’s leadership and commitment to youth have been recognized both locally and nationally. Among these honors is the coveted “Others” Award, which she received in 2015. She has also received Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Professional Service Award, The Professional Association’s Contribution to the Profession Award for the Southeast Region, and the National W. Errol Sewell Leadership Award for Outstanding Leadership in Field Services.

CASE i3 Information Session

If you have any interest in impact investing, be sure to attend this session!

Impact investing is the practice of investing capital into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention of generating a measurable social or environmental impact alongside a financial return. The CASE Initiative on Impact Investing (CASE i3) is recognized as one of the world’s leading MBA programs in impact investing and aims to prepare students to have the skills, experience, and connections to contribute to this dynamic and growing field.

At this info session we’ll share all the opportunities to get involved with CASE i3 this year. We’ll also explain the process for applying to the CASE i3 Consulting Practicum (CASE i3CP), our 6-credit experiential learning program giving students the opportunity to work in teams with an external client on an impact investing consulting project. Each team is led by a 2nd year CASE i3 Fellow (fellows listed here). Past clients have included SJF Ventures, Bain Capital, Fidelity Charitable, Mercy Corps, World Economic Forum, Calvert Foundation, Big Path Capital, and more. This year’s clients and project topics will be announced at the info session.

After the info session, you can mingle with other students interested in impact investing, and talk to our Fellows about the projects they will be leading this year. Pizza will be served!

Join CASE Professor Cathy Clark, Executive Director Erin Worsham, and Senior Fellow Dan Heath at the starting line of your Fuqua experience to orient yourself to the cutting edge in this exciting field and the many paths you can take during your time here. Join CASE for a Pop-Up Workshop on Storytelling, featuring local storytelling legend Jeff Polish of The Monti. What is a story and how can you use simple principles to impact and move others? Why is it important to emphasize the WHY in a situation over the WHAT? This is a very entertaining and energetic session that includes a number of stories, videos, and audience participation. Jeff will walk you through the key elements of creating a compelling and engaging story, allowing you time to work on and practice your story, and help you identify the countless ways to use this skill effectively in the business setting – especially when trying to effect social change.

Jeff Polish earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. After seven years of teaching, he left science to pursue storytelling as a full-time endeavor. Jeff founded The Monti in 2008 and also consults with businesses and non-profits on how to communicate effectively through storytelling. His clients include Boeing, Juniper Networks, and FHI360. Jeff received a 2013 Indies Arts Award and has been profiled in Science, Our State Magazine, Southern Living, and Garden & Gun.

Nick O’Donohoe, former Global Head of Research at JP Morgan, will talk about the foundation of Big Society Capital and its work dedicated to the development of social impact investing in the UK. Nick is the founding CEO of Big Society Capital and will join The Gates Foundation in January as senior adviser for blended finance.


Design Thinking Workshop

Led by Professor Greg Twiss, formerly of IDEO, this MBA-focused workshop will provide you with an understanding of the methodology and frameworks of design thinking and how they fit into the construct of business – whether applied within consulting, management, entrepreneurship, social or environmental impact, finance, health care, or marketing.

Following an in depth overview of design thinking all participants will work in groups on interactive exercises and engage with local entrepreneurs to better understand how design thinking tools are used in service, product and general strategy focused organizations.
