Faculty Director, CASE
Debu Purohit is Professor of Marketing at The Fuqua School of Business, where he also serves as Faculty Director for India and previously served as Associate Dean of The Duke MBA – Cross Continent program.
Purohit’s teaching and research interests include marketing high technology products and marketing strategy. He teaches a second year elective on marketing of high technology in the MBA program. He has been involved in executive education programs at Duke and the University of California, Berkeley and teaches in various executive education programs such as Marketing Leadership Forum and Program for Manager Development. In addition, Purohit teaches in custom executive education programs for companies including ABB, Ericsson, IBM, Microsoft, Progress Energy and Siemens.
Prior to joining the Duke faculty, Purohit was on the faculty of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Purohit earned his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 1988. Purohit has won numerous teaching awards in Duke’s MBA programs. He was recognized by The Duke MBA – Weekend Executive classes of 2000 and 2002 with the Best Teacher Award, and by the 2002 Daytime MBA class with the Daimler Chrysler Corporation Award for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching.
He has published extensively in journals such as Marketing Science, Management Science, Journal of Consumer Research, and Journal of Marketing Research. His dissertation, “A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis of Product Obsolescence,” won the Doctoral Dissertation Award from the American Marketing Association. He also won the John Little Best Paper award for his 1997 article, “Dual Distribution Channels: The Competition Between Rental Agencies and Dealers,” published in Marketing Science. He has been a finalist for this award on two other occasions, in 1994 and 1999.
