2021 brings a new event series to Duke University exploring the critical role that oceans play in our planetary systems, geopolitics, local communities, culture, and economy. “The Future of Our Oceans” webinar series features Duke researchers and invited experts discussing new research and exploring complex and contested questions about how to balance human demands with ocean health.
The series is the product of a new interdisciplinary community of Duke University faculty and students is working at the intersections of ocean science, policy, and business to promote ocean sustainability. “Oceans@Duke” was formed to enable faculty and students to connect and collaborate across all parts of Duke, including the Nicholas School of the Environment, Fuqua School of Business, Duke Law School, Sanford School of Public Policy, Duke Medical School, Pratt School of Engineering, Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, and Duke Kunshan University. The community serves as a clearinghouse for new opportunities, a facilitator for interdisciplinary collaboration, and an amplifier to increase the scale and impact of individual efforts.
Oceans@Duke also taps its network of experts and collaborators to bring innovative, practical insights to bear on urgent ocean sustainability challenges.
