EDGE Notes highlights new insights, research studies, events, and developments in the fast-moving global energy and environmental arena, with a focus on creating a global community of interest that learns together, compares insights and experiences, and builds momentum around a new collective vision for sustainably powering the planet.
Dan Vermeer, Executive Director of EDGE, is a professor, thought leader, and strategist. He teaches graduate classes on business sustainability at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and Nicholas School of the Environment, directs research projects, and consults with leading companies and organizations including Bank of America, UN Global Compact, and the Sustainability Consortium. Dr. Vermeer plays a leading public role in advocating for business sustainability through speaking, research, and institution-building. He is the founder and chief architect of the Global Water Challenge, a multi-partner organization for innovative water and sanitation initiatives, co-author of the CEO Water Mandate (signed by more than 50 Fortune 500 companies), and lead contributor to several policy documents issued through the World Economic Forum, World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the United Nations Foundation.
Katie Kross, Managing Director of EDGE, is an educator, nonprofit executive, and career coach. As author of Profession and Purpose: A Resource Guide for MBA Careers in Sustainability (Greenleaf Publishing, 2009), she is a frequent speaker on the topic of green and social impact careers. She has advised on sustainability strategy, business planning, and market research projects for both for-profit and non-profit organizations, and has counseled hundreds of students on career paths in energy, environment, and sustainability.
EDGE Notes also showcases insights from current Duke graduate students about the intersection of business, energy, and environmental strategy, and their experiences at Duke.
