This month’s CASE Chat features Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach for America and co-founder of Teach for All, a global network of independent organizations developing educational leaders and sharing educational solutions across the globe. Teach for All operates in 40 countries and has reaching 9.7 million students since its launch at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2007. In the CASE Chat, Wendy talks about her work scaling Teach for America and Teach for All, adapting the model to other countries, and what we need in the education space today.
On Scaling Teach for America…
“I think without the growth funding approach, which was a piece of [Teach for America’s scaling], it would have been really hard to imagine getting where we were trying to go.”
On what’s needed in the social sector…
“We need many, many more people who’ve experienced, themselves, the inequities that we’re working to address leading the work.”
On scaling across countries…
“We really believe that maximizing impact globally is going to be about two things working together. It’s going to be strong local entrepreneurs who have a vision for adapting this into their context, plus a global organization that can enable everyone to share with each other. And I think that kind of theory, that’s going to be the thing that both breeds innovation in the hands of all these local entrepreneurs and then enables us to capture the innovations and spread it.”
