Planning for the next annual Duke University Energy Conference is underway! This year’s team, led by co-chairs Megan Van Son Ferryman and Jack Dearing, is busy booking rooms, planning the agenda, and inviting speakers and sponsors for the 2025 Conference, which is expected to once again bring over 500 students, alumni, and industry professionals to campus to talk about trends and key issues in the energy sector.
Meet joint-degree students Megan and Jack below… and save the date to attend the conference on Nov. 5, 2025!

Jack Dearing (MBA/MPP’26)

Jack is pursuing an MBA and a Master in Public Policy at Duke to better understand how the energy industry and government can best facilitate a faster transition to clean energy sources in the U.S. and abroad. During last year’s Energy Conference, he organized the discussion on commercializing technologies in the “valley of death” as part of the conference’s program team. Prior to returning to Duke, he previously worked in power derivatives trading and in regulatory risk analysis and due diligence for investors in the energy sector. This summer, Jack is working at NextEra Energy Resources where he is helping to develop tools for developers to streamline the development of current and future clean energy projects in the U.S. and Canada.
