Fun things to do in Durham (and nearby) in the summer

Students, we love Durham! Will you be in town for all or part of the summer? The EDGE team has been at Fuqua for 15 years and we’ve got lots of favorite activities. Here are a few to check out.

Pick strawberries at DJ’s Berry Patch or another local farm (mid-April through early May)

Bike the entire length of the American Tobacco Trail

Go to the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance (May)

Don’t miss the opportunity to see some of the world’s best dancers in the American Dance Festival, held annually at Duke in the summer (June-July)

Grab a bite to eat & listen to live music (usually bluegrass) at “Fridays on the Front Porch” all summer long at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill

Go to a Durham Bulls baseball game

Walk on the Hillsborough River Walk to the Historic Occoneechee Speedway, where you can see the old grandstands and old cars from one of the first NASCAR tracks

Check out free musical performances in the Duke Gardens

See an outdoor movie or summer concert at Koka Booth Ampitheatre (Cary)

Rent kayaks or join a guided paddle with Frog Hollow Outdoors (Durham) or drive out to Saxapahaw for kayaking or SUP on the Haw River, followed by a meal at The Eddy Pub

Visit the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh

Get a group of friends together and splurge on a half-day pontoon boat rental on Jordan Lake

Hike to the top of Occoneechee Mountain (okay, it’s a very small mountain, but still a nice view from the top) in Hillsborough
