Gary Morris, MEM/MBA ’10, is a senior energy executive with more than fifteen years of experience leading large-scale power generation and renewable energy businesses across complex utility environments. He has spent his career at two of the largest electric utilities in the United States—Duke Energy and NextEra Energy—with a background spanning both non-regulated and regulated utility operations and deep expertise in financial oversight, commercial strategy, and business unit leadership.
Currently, Gary serves as Vice President of Business Management, where he has full financial responsibility for 16 GW of utility-scale generation assets spanning nuclear, fossil, solar, wind, and battery storage technologies across 17 states in the Midwest, Northeast, and Florida. He also has responsibility for NextEra’s nationwide distributed generation soar and storage operating fleet of 600 MW across 300 projects. In this role, he oversees profitability, commercial performance, and long-term value optimization for a highly diversified generation portfolio.
Previously, Gary was Chief Commercial Officer of EverBright, NextEra Energy’s residential solar subsidiary, where he led the sales, marketing, business development, and product management organizations. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of NextEra Energy’s Distributed Generation business, with full P&L ownership encompassing development, origination, engineering and construction, and asset management for distributed solar and storage projects across the United States.
Before joining NextEra Energy in 2018, Gary held a series of finance and renewable energy leadership roles at Duke Energy, including serving as Chief Financial Officer of REC Solar, a Duke Energy subsidiary. In that role, he was responsible for the finance organization as well as solar and storage development teams. His earlier experience at Duke Energy included roles in project valuation, origination and development, structured finance, and financial forecasting.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Elon University and both an MBA and Master of Environmental Management from Duke University.
