Marielena Octavio

Marielena Octavio grew up in Caracas, Venezuela and, prior to Fuqua, worked as a program manager at an environmental non-profit supporting projects focusing on sustainable fisheries, ocean policy, deforestation, climate action, water resources, and agriculture. As a CASE i3 Fellow, she hopes to continue to develop the skills, support network, and experience needed to better understand how to transform the financial systems that are driving inequity and the climate crisis to further justice, equity, and sustainability. This summer, she will be joining Vanguard supporting the Investment Stewardship (proxy voting and advocating for better corporate governance) or ESG (currently grappling with the challenge of ensuring ESG funds result in positive returns for investors – given Vanguard’s mission to give investors the best chance for investment success – in the context of widespread backlash against ESG) teams.
