We’re excited to announce that O, The Oprah Magazine recently featured Duke MBA Rachel Lichte and her company, Clarity Project!
Rachel and Clarity Project provide fairly sourced jewelry while creating sustainable incomes for local miners and giving back to the communities in which they operate. CASE is so proud of Rachel and fortunate that we have had the chance to support her and her social venture through the CASE Seed Prize and our courses and programs at Fuqua. Read more about Clarity in Rachel’s own words here, about her involvement with the CASE Seed Prize here, and a new feature article in the Duke magazine here!
We love the way that the article in Oprah Magazine starts out, describing a day in Rachel’s life – talk about using your business skills to have an impact!
On a typical day, Rachel Lichte wakes up to the smell of cooking fires and the sounds of the Muslim call to prayer. She makes a quick trip to town for supplies—tubes, wires—before heading to the three-acre diamond mine, surrounded by pineapple plantations, where she oversees 51 male workers, including 16 security guards. There she spends her days “covered in dirt”—a diamond mine, she notes, is “one of the least sexy places on earth”—and her nights poring over financial documents.
